Canalejas Center Madrid, Winner of LIT Design Awards in Exterior Architectural Illumination

The seven buildings that form Canalejas Center are framed by ten façades, built at different times from 1882 to 1974 with different styles and unique elements.

The intention was to establish a unifying criterion without losing the unique characteristics of each façade. Therefore, an integrated lighting scheme was designed to cover all 10 façades and to create an overall recognizable identity: It illuminates the main axes and all the architectural elements that distinguish each façade, thus creating an overall harmonic composition. A deliberate result was achieved by selecting small luminaires and tailor-made shielded fixtures. Fine-tuned light levels, to reduce energy consumption and light pollution, was a vital requirement in this project.
