Estudio Lamela Renovates the Mandarin Oriental Punta Negra Hotel
Estudio Lamela, alongside HKS, is responsible for the renovation of Hotel Punta Negra in Calviá, Mallorca, owned by Blasson Property Investments, to be operated by the Mandarin Oriental chain.
The project, which is expected to be completed during the second half of 2024, includes the construction of new buildings in the plot’s northern part, as well as the rehabilitation and reformation of the existing protected buildings.
The Mandarin Oriental Punta Negra of Mallorca will have 131 rooms, including 44 suites and 9 bungalows by the edge of the sea, in a heavenly spot on Costa d’en Blanes.
The project’s main characteristic is the architecture’s integration with and adaptation to the surrounding landscape. Thereby, a horizontal distribution has been proposed, divided into three parts – services, lounges, and rooms – linked by a vertical transportation center. The plan is organized into consecutive modules that open in the form of a fan towards the sea. The set is concluded with the bungalows or villas, scattered among the gardens.
The buildings’ height is hidden behind the surrounding pine trees, reducing its impact on the landscape and achieving a fusion between the hotel and its natural environment, being practically invisible from the sea.
In Carlos Lamela’s own words:
“The next “Mandarin Punta Negra” will undoubtedly become one of the next great hotels, not only on the Island of Mallorca and the Balearic Islands but possibly in the entire Mediterranean.”
