‘Financial Times’ visits Centro Canalejas Madrid with Carlos Lamela

Carlos Lamela, president of Estudio Lamela, visits the Centro Canalejas Madrid together with the Financial Times newspaper. The British media highlights the more than eight years of work involved in the construction of a building destined to change and improve the center of Madrid. “It will transform him completely”, says Carlos Lamela. “This area had gotten faded over the years”.

This project is one of the most significant urban development projects undertaken in Europe in recent times. It encompasses the restoration of seven historic buildings, two of them from the end of the nineteenth century, which were merged as a result of the different bank mergers and that were in disuse for 15 years, ever since the movement of the financial center to the outskirts of the city.

The Center has a luxury hotel operated by the Four Seasons chain with 200 rooms, an exclusive retail area of 15,000 m2, 22 luxury homes and a parking garage for 400 spaces. “It was a total Rubik’s cube”, Lamela says in the Financial Times. “The hardest thing to do was marry the protected facades with the interior floors and halls”.

Centro Canalejas Madrid is scheduled to open next September and is, as the Financial Times headlines, a commitment to quality construction in the capital of Spain.
