Gran Canaria Stadium

Estudio Lamela, in collaboration with the Canarian studio Alonso  Sosa Arquitectos, won the second prize in the competition for the expansion and comprehensive reformation of the Gran Canaria Stadium.

The proposal represents a perfect integration between innovation and sustainability. It offers a discreet and innovative design and elegantly adapts to the environment, becoming an architectural reference for the island.

The stadium is integrated into its topography as a semi-buried classical amphitheater, thus respecting and enhancing the natural characteristics of the place. The proposal includes significant reforestation, creating a public space with natural shade that connects the stadium with its urban surroundings.

This design ensures that the stadium not only serves as a sports infrastructure, but also as a place for social and cultural gathering.
