Estudio Lamela has been declared the winners by Metrovacesa to design one of the iconic apartment buildings of Málaga

The project, titled Málaga  Towers, is an apartment complex distributed through three towers of 21 floors each with a total area of 58,368 sqm. They’ll create a new urban landscape that signal the city’s border to the Southeast.

The towers are characterized by prioritizing views and orientations to the sea. That’s why a diaphanous layout has been created that offers the living rooms and master bedrooms direct views to the Mediterranean Sea.

Landscaped terraces on cantilever overhangs contribute to the exceptional views. These slabs create movement while they offer apartments protection from the sun.

The ground floor is foreseen to have a reception, a coworking zone, a fitness center with a sauna, spa and a heated pool, a private cinema, a social club, and a games room. On the top floor, a covered swimming pool has been designed that will offer extraordinary views of the city and the coast, as well as a gastrobar, a solarium, and a chillout area.

In regard to Sustainability, the buildings will be equipped with aerothermal heating systems, a non-polluting technology that extracts energy from the air in a sustainable way. Rainwater will also be collected and stored to be reused on the landscaped terraces that are specifically designed for the project’s location and climate.

The apartments will have cross ventilation, a factor that favors energy efficiency. Special attention will be given to elements that offer sun protection as well as shade. Additionally, sustainable construction materials will be used such as fast-growing timber that can easily be replanted.

“This is a unique project because the buildings and their apartments are in dialogue with the sea. It’s a frank conversation based in harmony and sustainability. Because of this, we believe that they’ll be one of the most iconic apartment buildings of the city. A 21st century architecture for a city that has made modernity, tradition, and respect for the environment its identity,” Carlos Lamela points out.

Number of apartments: 225
Estimated completion date of the towers: 2022
