Terminal T4 heads the list of the best buildings in Spain in the 21st century

On the World’s Architecture Day, the ABC newspaper proposes an interesting journey through the 15 best built spaces in this country during the 21st century. The selection has been made by Fredy Massad, architect and architecture critic, author of the blog “La viga en el ojo” in the above mentioned Spanish newspaper.

The expert locates the Terminal T4 of Madrid-Barajas Airport in the first place, signed by Estudio Lamela & Rogers Stirk Harbor + Partners (2006), for what it meant and is currently meaning.

At the time, it was the largest building on the continent, with approximately 1.2 million meters of floor space, and represented an aesthetic revolution that is still alive today. The work has won numerous awards: from the Stirling Prize of the Royal British Institute to the Best Engineering Project 2005, awarded by the Spanish Engineering Institute. But above all, it has won the recognition of users both at home and abroad. The architecture critic of the prestigious British newspaper The Guardian has already described T4 as “one of the best works of the 21st century”.
