LINE 2
STATION OF
WARSAW METRO
The project of Warsaw Metro’s Line 2 stations (Poland) consisted of the creation of seven new stations, of which 2 stations were carried out by Estudio Lamela.
The construction, in partnership with P Metroprojekt and Andrzej M. Choldzynski, of the II underground line in Warsaw consisted of seven new stations with ventilation shafts and tunnel works. Estudio Lamela was responsible for the project of two stations: Swietokrzyska, located in the center point of the city at Swietokrzyska, and Marszalkowska street and Nowy Swiat, the closest station to the Old Town – the most touristic area. Apart from those buildings, Estudio Lamela designed three ventilation shafts which are located between the stations.
Both stations consist of four underground levels: The check-in hall, two technical floors, and the platform. Nowy Swiat is the deepest station among all, going down 28 meters below ground level. The length of the stations is approximately 130 meters and 27 meters wide. On each station, there are two rows of columns.
On the first underground level, there are commercial spaces which create the vibrant urban space. On the Swietokrzyska stations, the connection between this level and the platform is by escalators surrounded by a glass tube which imitates the night sky.
All the materials used in public spaces in the stations – such as black stone, architecture concrete, and stainless steel – create a unique and elegant character of a public transportation building into a dynamic and expanding city.
Estudio Lamela was responsible for the project execution and the supervision of the works on the construction site, as well as the cooperation with the General Contractor to fulfill the investors’ requirements.
