The UNICA Agribusiness Centre, an innovation complex designed by Estudio Lamela for UNICA Group, is now in operation
Employees of UNICA Group, an agri-food company composed of 16 cooperatives focused on production, sales, and export, have begun occupying the facilities of the new UNICA Agribusiness Centre (UAC) located in the Almería Technology Park (PITA). This innovation complex is designed to radically transform the agricultural sector, incorporating experimental practices in research and development.
In this commission, Estudio Lamela has reinterpreted the traditional cave architecture of Almería, as well as other vernacular typologies, with the aim of taking advantage of the site’s topography and the thermal inertia of the terrain. A bioclimatic and low-maintenance strategy has been adopted: the building is protected from heat, wind, and excessive sunlight, while maximizing natural light and ventilation, and presenting a modern and distinctive image.
According to Carlos Lamela, “this is a very special project: we have devoted great enthusiasm to this innovative complex and hope it will become a global benchmark in the agri-food sector.”
